What Is a Preliminary Design Project?

A preliminary design project is not the same as concept design. Concept design is the stage in which we develop a spatial idea and choose a direction for the project. The preliminary design project comes next: it develops the selected concept into project documentation.

The preliminary design project presents the building through appropriate drawings, such as floor plans, sections and elevations, together with a technical description and relevant project data. The design is developed in relation to the site, planning requirements and other conditions applicable to the specific project.

For a client, the distinction matters: concept design explores what we want to achieve; the preliminary design project defines the selected solution in project documentation. Its content and scope depend on the type of project and are specified in our proposal.
